It’s one of the best times of year again! Because it’s October, it’s time for Subaru Loves Pets! During this month, we do what we can with our communities to give to our furry friends with and without homes. And thanks to this year’s online capabilities, you can take part in the festivities at Subaru of BR whether you’re in Baton Rouge, Slidell, or New Orleans. Our Causes This Year

We’re continuing the love we sent last year by giving back to the ASPCA and the Center for Pet Safety. With the use of our vehicles and donations, Subaru has been able to give back in amazing ways. For example, we’ve donated nearly $22 million to the ASPCA as well as provided support for over 1,500 welfare-related events. Seeing these animals thrive is just one of the reasons we do what we do to help!

Make A Dog’s Day

We realized we mentioned Make A Dog’s Day last year, but didn’t quite go into it! Let’s explain a little bit about this special day.

You see, some pets have a much harder time getting adopted than others. Every dog needs a loving home that can take them in and care for them. Animals considered to be more difficult to home include:

• Animals with missing limbs. Depending on the animal, this missing limb may have little to no effect on their quality of life. Either way, they tend to have a much harder time being adopted.
• Blind animals. Disabilities like this can scare off many potential adopters. However, with the right care, a blind animal is no different than a seeing animal.
• Deaf or hard of hearing animals. Same as blind animals, many people worry about the level of care these pets need. After all, how can you teach them tricks? Easy. Just use hand signals. All you need is a small change of care.
• Black animals. Strangely enough, black animals tend to have a harder time being adopted. There doesn’t seem to be any reasoning behind it, but many shelter owners swear it’s true. So much so, that there’s a phenomenon called “Black Dog Syndrome.”
• Elderly animals. Many adopters tend to overlook elderly dogs and cats for a much younger animal. But they forget that you can have many fulfilling years left with an animal, even an elderly one.

Do your part this October 22nd and adopt one of these underdogs. You never know when you’ll find the perfect furry companion. Even if that dog is elderly, blind, or hard of hearing.
