• In 1958, Fuji Heavy Industries created one of its first cars, the Subaru 360. This beetle-looking vehicle was in production for 13 years and came into the US in 1968. While an adorable start, this kei car would fall short in today’s world for several reasons. The biggest is because the 360 could only reach about 60 mph with its two-cylinder engine. Most cars these days have four to six cylinders, and trucks have six to eight.
• Our most loyal customers might remember the Subaru Loyale. It was also known as the Leone, L Series, GL-10, 1800, and other names. This compact car went strong from 1971 to 1994. But the small size fell short to larger vehicles, and since then, Subaru has made leaps with our technology.
• Have you ever heard of a microvan? At Subaru, we enjoy making cars for everyone, and the Subaru Sumo was no exception. Like the Loyale, the Sumo was also known as a few other names—such as the Libero and Domingo. While, at the time, the Sumo was speedy and reliable, it would fall short these days. For the power you really need with the space you want, a Forester is more your speed. Even with the sands of time moving, we remember this 1983-1998 vehicle fondly.
• Despite only being on the market for four years, the Subaru Baja brought more to the table. This multiple-choice vehicle won various awards thanks to the look and power this compact pick-up truck presented. However, the Baja’s smaller pickup capacity couldn’t keep up with today’s vehicles. For all the power and even more size, today’s shoppers would better benefit from a Forester or Outback.
